Press Release
The Acting Foreign Affairs Minister for the Republic of the Sudan has communicated through a written message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Djibouti, Chair of IGAD, the decision of the Government of the Republic of Sudan to discontinue its engagement and suspend its dealing with IGAD in all aspects related to the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The decision was taken due to the repeated violations committed by the Organization in handling the issue including imposing an agenda item on the current situation in Sudan in the Agenda of the 42nd IGAD Extraordinary Assembly of Heads of State and Government scheduled to be held in Kampala, Republic of Uganda, on Thursday, January 18th 2024, without any kind of consultation with the Government of Sudan. This is in addition to the dangerous precedent by inviting the Militia leader to show up in the venue Summit on 18th January. These acts constitute serious infringement of Sudan sovereignty, as well as grave violations of the IGAD legal framework and the rules governing the work of all Regional and International Organizations.
