Foreign Minister Holds Bilateral Meeting with UNOPS Executive Director

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohieddin Salem held a bilateral meeting on Monday with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting discussed the government's efforts toward economic recovery and reconstruction, as well as its efforts to create an environment with basic services in line with waves of voluntary returns.
The Minister outlined areas of cooperation that Sudan hopes UNOPS will work on, foremost among them the health and agricultural sectors, along with voluntary return projects and sustainable solutions for displaced people. He also highlighted the importance of women's economic empowerment and the need to benefit from the office's engineering expertise to accelerate industrial recovery and support productive housing programs.
For his part, the Executive Director said his office is currently working with the national authorities on a number of strategic projects in the secure states, making use of the capacities of national personnel and the private sector in implementation.
He stressed his full commitment to placing Sudan on his agenda in all his bilateral meetings with partners and donor countries.
The meeting concluded with an invitation to the Executive Director to visit Sudan to discuss broader avenues of cooperation with the relevant authorities.
