President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan visited the Virgin Mary Church in Khartoum on Sunday to extend Easter greetings, accompanied by Finance Minister Gebreil Ibrahim and Director of the General Intelligence Service Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal. He was received by Anba Elia, Bishop of Khartoum and South Sudan, along with a number of priests and clergy.
The TSC President extended congratulations to Christians across the country, affirming that Sudan has long been a model of religious coexistence and diversity. He highlighted the role of the Coptic community in national life and their support for the armed forces in what he described as the “Battle of Dignity.”
Al-Burhan also directed the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Virgin Mary Church, restoring it to its former condition following damage to churches and places of worship during the conflict. For his part, Anba Elia welcomed the visit, describing it as a reflection of the state leadership’s attention to religious occasions, and said it would help strengthen national cohesion among Sudanese of different affiliations. He reaffirmed the Coptic community’s support for the armed forces in efforts to end the conflict.
