Prime Minister Inaugurates Rehabilitated Soba Substation

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris on Thursday inaugurated the Soba electricity substation with a capacity of 150 MVA after its rehabilitation by the Sudan Electricity Holding Company, in the presence of Energy Minister Engineer Al-Mua’tasim Ibrahim, the company’s Director-General Engineer Abdullah Ahmed, and a number of ministry and company officials.
The Prime Minister affirmed the Government of Hope’s serious commitment to providing services to citizens, stating that citizens had endured greatly during the war and that it was the duty of the state to provide them with essential services. He described the war ignited by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia as both an ordeal and an opportunity from which Sudan would emerge stronger and more resilient. He also reaffirmed the government’s determination to advance reconstruction programs, noting that most of these projects had been implemented through self-generated resources, while praising the Ministry of Energy and electricity companies for rehabilitating the substations within a short period.
For his part, the Minister of Energy stressed his ministry’s serious efforts to improve electricity services and reduce outages through the operation of these substations, explaining that both stations had been completely rebuilt, marking a significant achievement for the electricity sector. He added that regardless of the facilities targeted by the militia, the ministry would continue rehabilitating them.
The minister further announced plans to raise electricity generation capacity from the current 3,400 megawatts to approximately 6,000 megawatts, noting ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment in renewable energy and power station construction.
Meanwhile, Director-General of Operations and Maintenance, Engineer Al-Waleed Kabbashi, explained that the importance of the Soba substation lies in compensating for the deficit caused by the destruction of the Khartoum and Bahri substations, as it supplies electricity to southern Khartoum and northern Al-Gezira State through three major transformers with a total capacity of 150 MVA. He added that efforts are continuing to gradually restore all damaged substations to service, expressing gratitude to the National Electricity Corporation and distribution companies for supporting the restoration of pre-war conditions in Khartoum and other states.
