President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, participated, on Monday, in the activities of the World Urban Forum. This was in response to an invitation from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi. The forum is widely attended by heads of state and government.
General Al-Burhan welcomed the Arab Republic of Egypt's hosting of the forum in its twelfth edition, praising the level of arrangement and organization of the conference's work.
In his speech to the participants in the World Urban Forum, His Excellency referred to the consecutive achievements made by Egypt and its success in establishing a comprehensive civilizational and developmental renaissance in a very critical period that witnessed important developments at the regional and international levels.
Hereunder is an unofficial translation of the text of TSC President`s speech:
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Your Excellency, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt
Your Excellencies, Presidents,
Heads of Governments and Ministers
Mrs. Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme
Heads of delegations, Honorable Attendees
It is a great pleasure for us to participate with you today in the land of “Kenana”, the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, in the work of the twelfth edition of the World Urban Forum, which is held under the slogan: "Everything Starts Locally... Let's Work Together for Sustainable Cities and Communities." Allow me at the beginning of my speech to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to His Excellency President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for the generous hospitality and warm reception we have witnessed, which is not surprising for our sister country Egypt, and my warmest congratulations to His Excellency for Egypt hosting this important international event, and congratulations to the Egyptian leadership for its efforts through assuming the leadership of the African Union in the file of reconstruction and development after conflicts and hosting this event in the African continent for the first time in more than twenty years.
Brother President
Ladies and Gentlemen
We have followed with great pleasure the successive accomplishments made by Egypt and its achievement of a comprehensive civilizational and developmental renaissance in a very critical period that witnessed important developments at the regional and international levels, and its ability to transform challenges into opportunities and possibles, and this was achieved in light of the will and the presence of a conscious leadership that is aware of the requirements of the stage.
Brother President
Your Excellencies the Presidents
Heads of Government and Ministers
Mrs. Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
I take this opportunity to express our appreciation for the efforts and initiatives of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, in enhancing our national efforts, particularly those related to following up on sustainable urbanization strategies, and supporting the establishment of consistent programs to address urbanization trends, by enhancing and strengthening urban regional planning strategies to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. Thanks also for its continuous efforts in supporting the Sudanese people during the Corona pandemic, and recently during the floods and torrential rains this year, and we are confident that it will continue the same initiatives and projects soon.
Your Excellencies, Presidents,
Your Excellencies and Highnesses
Ladies and Gentlemen
As you know, the Sudanese people are facing a war targeting their existence, their state, their civilization, their infrastructure and their gains that have always been in the service of the brothers of Sudan and a bridge for cooperation, communication, construction, transfer and exchange of benefits, by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. These groups that have hired foreign mercenaries to seize power and undermine the transitional period, vandalized public and private property, and committed practices that have nothing to do with the Sudanese people, such as killing, rape, robbery, and plundering. Practices that constitute crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. However, the Sudanese people and their armed forces are determined to preserve the state and its institutions and abort this devilish plan, looking forward to an effective role from various sisterly and friendly countries, stakeholders, and specialists in the process of rehabilitating the urban sector that was affected by the systematic targeting by the militia supported by regional and international powers, and working to prepare for the stage of rebuilding the sectors of the Sudanese state in the post-war period, which will begin soon, Allah willing.
Your Excellencies, the Presidents
Your Excellencies and Highnesses
Ladies and Gentlemen
We trust that this forum will come out with clear recommendations on housing and sustainable development issues. Effective recommendations contribute to addressing the imbalances that the international system suffers from, which have greatly delayed the process of collective progress in the sustainable development file. Perhaps we consider it an opportunity to enhance global cooperation and reach a charter on the future by building strong alliances for the new urban agenda and addressing the global challenges imposed by the global housing crisis, climate change and desertification.
Finally, I am confident that the recommendations of the forum will support and back the Sudanese people in their aspiration to rebuild their country and achieve real development that will be a lever for the region and attract friends and partners, wishing you success in your deliberations. Thank you, brothers of Sudan, thank you, friends of Sudan, thank you, patient people of Sudan.
Thank you, and may the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon you.

Arab League condemns rebel RSF militia violations in Al-Gezira
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, condemned in the strongest terms the grave human rights violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Al-Gezira State over the past few days, which included - according to UN reports - mass killings, rape of women and girls, plundering of markets and homes, and burning of farms on a large scale.
The Arab League called, in a statement on its official website, on the international community to redouble efforts to stop the crimes and hold their perpetrators accountable. Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Arab League, considered that the continued commission of these heinous crimes, some of which amount to ethnic cleansing in Darfur and various areas of Sudan despite repeated international condemnations, is additional evidence of the urgent need to coordinate efforts and international and regional cooperation to stop the war and hold perpetrators accountable, and the necessity of not allowing the exploitation of the distraction of international and Arab attention on the backdrop of the crimes of the Israeli occupation in Gaza and Lebanon to seek to overthrow the Sudanese state institutions and threaten the unity of the country and the integrity of its territories.
