Foreign Minister Meets His Latvian and Hungarian Counterparts, FAO Director, and French Foreign Ministry Official

On the first day of the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim, met with his counterparts from the Republic of Latvia and Hungary, in addition to the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Director-General of African Affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his meeting with the Latvian Foreign Minister, Mrs. Baiba Braže, emphasis was placed on the necessity of turning the understandings between the two countries into practical steps, represented in Latvia’s support for Sudan during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period (2026-2027).
The Foreign Minister briefed his Latvian counterpart on the progress achieved on the ground by the army on various fronts, in addition to providing a general overview of the civilian government, its formation, and objectives.
*Meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister*
During his meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Mr. Péter Szijjártó, emphasis was placed on the strength of the historical relationship between Sudan and Hungary, and on discussing mechanisms and ways of developing relations between the two countries and exchanging benefits.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister extended an official invitation to the Foreign Minister to visit Hungary.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation briefed his Hungarian counterpart on the situation in Sudan and the grave violations being committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, pointing to the necessity for the international community to take the required measures against this criminal militia.

In the meeting with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Mr. Qu Dongyu, emphasis was placed on the urgent need to increase the support provided by the organization, especially in light of the complex humanitarian situation resulting from the war of aggression led by the militia. It was stressed that further efforts must be made in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food Program me (WFP) to bridge the gaps and provide the necessary support.

In his meeting with the Director-General of African Affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Emmanuelle Blatmann, the Minister stressed that France, being a permanent member of the Security Council, should, together with the European Union countries, take decisive steps to curtail the rebel RSF militia and hold it accountable by all possible means for the grave crimes and violations it is committing, whether in El-Fashir, Kordofan, or other cities and areas of Sudan.
The Minister also provided a brief update on the army’s achievements and the plans and objectives of the civilian government. He affirmed that the government is open to achieving constructive communication and understanding with the European Union countries, which would contribute to unifying efforts in curtailing and condemning the violations of the criminal militia.
